Aims/ Objectives/ Rationale:


The course enables the candidate to understand the theory and apply the practice of the assessment and management of life threatening and non-life threatening conditions and injuries in adults and children. Emphasis is placed on the prevention, assessment and pre-hospital management of injuries.

Course Content:


The course covers the basic structure and functions of the respiratory, circulatory, skeletal, nervous, sensory, gastro-intestinal, urinary and integumentary systems of the human body and the application of general principles in assessment and management in emergency situations and unconscious casualty. Practical training on cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in various simulated situations will be covered. It also covers the principles and management of emergencies in childbirth. In addition, recognition of potential environmental hazards and describe methods to reduce or eliminate such hazards, classification of potential hazardous environment for adults, elderly and children will be included.
